Information RenMap handles
Map and app activity
RenMap downloads festival maps, places, schedules, images, icons, and offline map files. The app may keep this content and your local preferences on your device so it continues to work with limited connectivity. Our web server may process standard request information such as IP address, browser or device type, requested URL, and request time for security and service operation.
Location
If you grant location permission, RenMap uses precise location to show your position, sort or locate map content, verify location-based activities, show consenting group members on the map, and determine whether an onsite phone is eligible to relay a mesh message. Location may be shared with people in a mesh group when you use a location-sharing feature. Relay-eligibility coordinates are processed by the service and are not written to the RenMap database by that check.
Mesh identity and group information
Mesh features use a radio node number, an optional display name, group identifiers, group names, public encryption keys, radio status, and recent “last heard” times. Group secrets are stored by the service as one-way hashes. The app does not require a conventional RenMap account or password.
Messages
Group messages may be stored as readable text on the RenMap service so authorized group devices can synchronize them. Direct cloud messages are encrypted by the app before they are stored; the service stores ciphertext rather than the direct-message text. Messages sent over Meshtastic may also be processed by nearby radios and devices participating in that radio network.
Support and safety reports
If you contact support or report content, we receive the information you choose to include, such as your email address, message or node identifiers, a description of the issue, and relevant message text.
Device permissions
Bluetooth is used to connect to a compatible Meshtastic radio, the camera is used only when you choose to scan an invite QR code, and notifications are used for message alerts. Apple controls these permissions, and you can change them in iOS Settings.
How information is used
- Provide maps, schedules, search, offline access, location features, and mesh communication.
- Synchronize authorized mesh groups and deliver or relay messages.
- Protect the service, prevent abuse, investigate reports, and enforce community rules.
- Diagnose failures, answer support requests, and improve reliability.
- Comply with legal obligations and protect users, SpocksClub, and others.
RenMap does not sell personal information and does not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
When information is shared
Information is shared with members of a mesh group as needed for the group features you use. We may also use infrastructure providers that host or secure the RenMap service and process data only to provide those services. Information may be disclosed when required by law, to investigate abuse or security problems, or to protect rights and safety. We do not share personal information with data brokers or advertisers.
Retention and deletion
On-device map data, groups, people, and messages remain until you clear or reset them, remove the app, or iOS removes cached data. Service-side group and message information is kept while needed to provide synchronization, safety, and service integrity, then deleted or de-identified when it is no longer reasonably needed. Security logs may be kept for a limited period.
You can reset local mesh groups inside RenMap. To request access to or deletion of service-side information, email [email protected]. Because RenMap does not use conventional user accounts, we may ask for group or node details needed to locate the information and verify the request.
Your choices
- Decline or disable location, Bluetooth, camera, or notification permission in iOS Settings.
- Use the festival map without creating a mesh group.
- Choose whether to send messages or share location with a mesh group.
- Block a mesh user, report content, or reset locally stored mesh groups in the app.
- Contact us to make a privacy or deletion request.
Children, security, and U.S. availability
RenMap is not directed to children under 13. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted transport to the service, hashed group secrets, and app-level encryption for direct cloud messages. No system is completely secure, so do not send sensitive or emergency information through RenMap. The initial App Store release is offered in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as RenMap changes. The effective date above will be revised when a new version is posted. Material changes will be communicated in the app or on this site when appropriate.
